NTT DoCoMo, NEC Develop Environmentally Friendly Mobile Phone
December 13, 2005
NTT Docomo announced on December 12 that it has developed a mobile phone, which uses an environmentally friendly bioplastic material called polylactide, in cooperation with NEC. The new material, which is reinforced by kenaf fibers, is used for 75% of the body of the phone, and emits only half the amount of carbon dioxide during production compared with currently used materials. NTT Docomo plans to start selling the phone in February or March 2006 for about 15,000 Yen, and it will aim the handset at environmentally conscious women.
